Climbing in Normandy
- Home Page.
June 2008 - These pages
are somewhat dated having been written in 2002. The crag info is ok but some
of the links are out of date and there is more info on the web now. We've just
been back and there's a load more to add. I'll get around to it in a week or
so!
Some basic info about climbing across the channel in l'Orne valley, Normandy. Channel ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre, Caen (Ouistreham) and Cherbourg and from Newhaven to Dieppe provide a convenient way of getting into France and when you get there, there's plenty of climbing. For those living in the rock starved south of England, France's proximity makes a weekend trip well worth while as an alternative to slogging up to the North.
Wave your mouse pointer over or click on the coloured circles or the corresponding links below. Click Nornamdy Home to come back to this page.
Apologies for the lack of translation -
I speak very little French, not that that made any difference on the trip -
the locals we met were friendly and accommodating.
A short article on the recce trip can be viewed here.
See individual crag pages for topo
info but it's well worth looking around the web before you go as topos go in
and out of print and their availability changes. Trundle
off here to a page with French climbing guide info
and links
